Doris Pack started her career as a teacher. She entered politics at the local level in the 1960s. She was Member of the Bundestag from 1974 to 1983 and again from 1985 to 1989. She was also the Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and of the WEU Assembly from 1981 to 1983 and from 1985 to1989, as well as an Honorary Member of PACE. From 1989 to 2014, she served as a Member of the European Parliament and the Chairwoman of the Delegation for Relations with Southeast Europe from 1994 to 2009. Doris Pack was the Chairwoman of the Committee on Culture from 2009 to 2014. Today she is the honorary president of EPP Women.  She is also the president of the Robert Schuman Institute. She has been awarded orders of merit for her work by several countries, including Germany, France, Austria, and Albania. She received honorary doctorates from the University of Zadar, Croatia in 2007 and the University of Prishtina, Kosovo in 2009. She has been made an honorary citizen of Kukes and Shengjin (Albania), Vitia (Kosovo), and Herceg Novi (Montenegro).
