New Strategy Center

Sergiu Mitrescu is the Program Director at the New Strategy Center in Bucharest. He holds a BA in International Relations and an MA in Security Studies from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He specialises in geopolitics, energy, and infrastructure, with a focus on the wider Black Sea region. One of his recent publications provided a geoeconomic analysis of Chinese influence in the Balkans, while his latest publication, titled “The Wider Balkan Region at the Crossroads of a New Regional Energy Matrix”, was presented at the Belgrade Security Conference in October 2022. He is currently working on a joint paper focusing on the economic potential of a new energy belt, stretching from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea.  Sergiu Mistrescu has also written for the mainstream press in Romania, publishing articles and analysis on energy, infrastructure, mobility and national politics.
